What’s Content Syndication??

Imagine your blog is a fantastic book, but it’s sitting on a shelf in a remote library. Content syndication is like placing your book in multiple popular libraries where more readers can discover it. Do you want to give your content legs so that your content can reach thousands of new readers who probably don’t even know that your blog exists?

*Insert the sound of crickets*

Simply stated: Content Syndication is a whole process of where you republish your content onto something called Third Party sites. What are third party sites? They’re sites that you don’t own, and you share content with them, in hopes that they will post it on their site.

These sites can range from large media outlets to niche blogs and industry-specific platforms. The idea is to get your content in front of more people, driving traffic back to your original blog.

And Guess what? If you’ve been blogging for a little bit in life, then you already might be syndicating your content on a lighter level. There are lots of great content syndication sites to help you!

Tell Me More, David. This is Awesome!What Are the Benefits?

By sharing your top-notch content on syndication platforms, you can score high-quality backlinks. Just make sure your content is original and not just a copy-paste job. Don’t be lazy, be strategic! Your website will thank you later.
  • Brand Authority: Establish yourself as an expert in your niche by appearing on reputable sites. With Many Sites Worrying about E-E-A-T, and showing authorship, experience, knowledge, and so much more…it’s an amazing tactic.
  • Cost-Effective: Leverage existing content without the need for new material. It’s cost-effective on YOUR time and on YOUR wallet, if you happen to have some awesome VA’s (Virtual Assistants)! This way, you and your VA’s can focus on your Content Strategy.

  • It Gives YOU Content: You’re not the only one out there syndicating your content. Others are, too! This is perfect if you are needing more content on your content calendar to that you know will be useful to your readers.

Can Syndication Your Content Onto Other Sites be Bad for Your SEO?

Well, the answer is YES and NO at the same time. It’s a double edged sword. All links go back to you as the original source of truth due to a piece of code, which we will get to.

However, if a bigger site picks up your content to syndicate out to their audience, then there’s the possibility of them outranking you.

How do I feel about this? I’m actually okay!! Why? Because again, it’s giving me greater exposure to an untapped audience for myself.

Isn’t this considered duplicate content? Nope! Content Syndication has been happening long before we were probably born. And what about Google and other Search Engines? Here’s exactly what Google states:

“If you syndicate your content on other sites, Google will always show the version we think is most appropriate for users in each given search, which may or may not be the version you’d prefer. ”

Remember earlier I was talking about you being the source of truth? How is this done?? With use a special piece of code for your link. It’s called:

rel=”canonical”

And here’s what it looks like:

<link rel="canonical" href="https://notageek4u.com/something-awesome/" />

The best part? Both Yoast AND Rankmath have spots that you can put a link into. For Yoast it’s under the Advanced Section:

For RankMath, you can also find it under the Advanced Section:

Not only does the rel=canonical tag declare you as the content master, but it also hooks you up with all the juicy links that come with syndication. It’s like being the cool kid at the party who gets all the attention without even trying.

Now, this will NOT stop another site from outranking you for certain keywords in your article, but it will all point to you as the main truth. At the end (or in rare times, sometimes in the beginning) the blogger/site owner that used your content will write something similar to:

Originally appeared on: OR Originally Published on: And then a link to your original article.

If you’re SUPER concerned about being Outranked, then ask if they can “no-index” the article on their site. Some might do it, and many won’t. I wouldn’t even stress about asking someone to no-index an article. But it’s an option, and I love giving options.

So I Should Just Start Syndicating ALL My Content Everywhere!? YAY!

Eh! Wrong. Don’t do that. I’ll squirt with water from a spray bottle. You don’t want all of your content syndicated all over the world. That makes your spammy site, and not worth much because of the weak content you’re probably providing.

Here Are Some Things to Consider When Syndicating:

  • Create Quality Content: Ensure your content is valuable and engaging. When syndicating content, you really want to focus on the quality of the content, and not so much the quantity.
  • Identify Syndication Partners: Find websites that align with your niche and audience. Recipe Bloggers Don’t want to be on automobile websites. It’s gotta mesh. So, Ensure the platform’s audience matches your target demographic.
  • Authority: Higher domain authority sites can provide more SEO benefits. There are plenty out there willing to partner with you!
  • Engagement: Look for platforms with active and engaged readerships. The more engaged, the better for you!
  • Neglecting Original Content on YOUR Blog: You don’t want to publish a 1,001 different pieces of syndicated content on your site. Remember to balance that it all out! You want to remember that you want quality on your site that helps your audience.
  • You REALLY need to be a GOOD writer! Sites are just going to syndicate your content because you feel it’s a great kick-ass article. Nope. They’re going to file it away in their trash can, and mostly without any feedback at all.

If you’re JUST getting started in the content creation world, then I just doing some Guest Post Blogging for platforms. It’s not syndication, but it will most definitely get your name out in there in the world.

The Most AMAZING companies start at zero, and are not cranking out the money because they put the time and value in writing epic pieces of content that serves their audience.

That’s what this whole scenario is about: Truly Serving our Audience and giving them what they want, and what they need, and what we think they will truly value.
